Massage: Luxury or Preventative Necessity?

Massage: Luxury or Preventative Necessity?

I had a conversation with a client some weeks ago about massage. Well, surprise, surprise!

The conversation went along the lines of: massage is something that, although it costs money that, on the face of things, exceeds the weekly budget, it saves you a lot more money in the long run. Massage is not a luxury.

    Strangely enough, I agree.

You have a sore neck. Maybe you slept awkwardly. You shrug it off, head to work to earn another day’s wages to feed the kids, pay the bills and attempt to make a dint in the mortgage. By the end of the day, you can’t move your neck, you’ve a headache that’s making you feel sick and you’re grumpier than a starved Tassie devil.

You don’t sleep that night and come the next morning, not even pain-killers allow you to get yourself off to work. You call in sick. Great, you have sick pay. No worries!

You don’t worry about forking out for a treatment or adjustment or whatever, you just dose up on ibuprofen and head off to bed.

But get this: sick pay runs out, so does carer’s leave, annual leave, RDOs…then there’s leave without pay…well, that mortgage ain’t goin’ nowhere.remedial massage therapy 300x199 Massage: Luxury or Preventative Necessity?

New scenario: You get regular massage. It’s a chip out of the weekly (at first) then monthly budget, but you’ve never had to take a (legitimate) sick day, any headache you get is short lived (or due to eye-strain, so see your optometrist), your immune system is awesome (you’ve put your GP out of a job – send them to me, they’ll be stressed, so they’ll need a massage). Your blood pressure is excellent (again, your GP, although pleased, is concerned they may not see you again!), you sleep beautifully…what more can you ask for?

$80 a month and happy, healthy muscles and joints can be yours.

Who would like to argue that it’s not worth it? This isn’t a challenge. I’d like to hear why you believe that caring for yourself now, is not worth your future. You’re all happy to save now for a house or a car. Why can you not save  for yourself now, for your happiness and health for now and in the future?

Please add your comments. I’d like to hear from you all. Better yet, I’d like to see you all!

Massage Therapy is under-rated, I agree! A regular massage solves those aches and pains that would otherwise linger. Massage is often seen as a luxury, or a treat to yourself, but on the contrary. It can be medically beneficial – relieve those headaches, stress levels, repetitive strains, sports injuries or just your general mood.
