Just a point of interest for you all.
This article was sent to me, after a conversation regarding extremes of behaviour. How Clean is Too Clean? covers a topic that has long been argued and it now appears that our ‘germ-phobia’ is causing more harm than good. Each generations’ health, fitness and ability to recover from stress and illness seems to be waning.
Allergies and intolerances are everywhere, resistance to drugs is increasing as rapidly as new strains of bugs are cropping up…hand sanitisers, soaps and hospital grade detergents with more chemical compounds than a NASA science lab are killing off more healthy, helpful bacteria than they are keeping us safe from the harmful ones.germs 150x150 Clean and Unhealthy

What happened to giving kids the opportunity to be kids? To play in the mud, eat from the dog’s bowl and investigate the kitchen garbage bin? It builds up your immune system and resistance to nasties. Plus, it’s a whole lot more fun than sitting in front of a TV.messy healthy happy kid 150x150 Clean and Unhealthy

I lived outside as a small one, playing in the dirt and making a mess. Look at me, I turned out alright!
    I think…!
Point being, live a little and get grubby!

        Interesting article.

I recently experienced an instance of cleanliness going to far. On Saturday I went for a swim at a local swimming pool. Everything went well until I go home. No sooner had I opened the door I began sneezing.

The sneezing continued for the next 3 days. I discovered that the sneezing was due to the amount chlorine in the pool. The great irony is that the sneezing was brought on by the very chemical which is supposed to protect me against any germs. The sneezing has left me dehydrated and fatigued due to lack of sleep.

While it is reassuring that people are researching ways of protecting us against harmful germs, we do need to be aware of the implications of how we deal with germ-phobia.

Chris, thanks very much for you comment. The care you have shown for your own health and wellness will now provide others with answers and solutions. How terrifically cool is that!?
So, next time someone feels unwell after their swim, it could be down to overkill of germs not an over-abundance of germs!
          Thanks again, Chris!
